Penguins
Penguins are birds. But unlike most birds. They are unable to fly. They are one of about 40 species of flightless birds. Most penguins live in the southern hemisphere. No penguins lie in the north pole.
They are very social and live in colonies. They are amazing swimmers who use their wings like paddles to swim through water. They can stay underwater for 10-15 minutes before suffocating to breathe. They cannot breathe underwater.
Their feet are so small. So they do not lose too much heat as they stand on ice. They help each other stay warm by gathering together and shuffling around. Their primary diet consists of fish and krill. They will swallow pebibes ( a type of fish) as well as their food.
They can also drink seawater because they have special glands that filter salt from the bloodstream. They use their color to camouflage themselves. Once a year penguins malt. Most birds will lose a few feathers at times throughout the year. But penguins lose all their feathers at once. They cannot swim without feathers so they eat a lot more.
